As a photographer, one of the absolute gifts I have is the ability to photograph family. Most of this comes in photos of my kids, which we actively withhold from social media. But every once in a while, I get to photograph the wife and this time, wow...
This woman is a super hero (like all mothers are). She does so much for her family and has so much love, it's impressive.
This shot was actually my first experimentation with a new flash I had recently purchased, the Godox AD200. I had watched a YouTube video by Sean Tucker in which he really sings the flash's praises and convinced me it was the way to go. With a softbox umbrella and the right distance, the light is just so soft and smooth. I can't wait to start shooting more portraits with the setup!
After the normal portrait shots, we decided to try a silhouette to really accentuate her baby bump (people would swear up and down that she didn't look pregnant up until the end, we needed some proof). I stuck the flash on the other side of Sarah, pointing toward the camera at full power. Word to the wise, don't look directly into the light! The results (plus a little bit of help from photoshop to extend the the white background, shhhh) speak for themselves.
I'm not a pro maternity or newborn photographer, but I'm sure going to act like one for a while now that the baby is born!
